Each Document Library can have it's own Security Access Control List (ACL).

With individual and separate Security Access Control List, each Document Library can have it's own administrator and users. With this setting, system is more secure.

For example; Finance Department can only add-edit-delete his own department, and other departments cannot access it.

ACL can be assigned to one or combination of:

  1. Institution (Company) users
  2. Department users
  3. Group users
  4. Individual user

Centralized ACL vs Decentralized ACL

There are two common implementation of ACL.

#1. Centralized ACL

The Centralized ACL means main/central administrator manage all document libraries. Whenever new department wish to add/remove members, they need to contact main administrator.

#2. Decentralized ACL

The Decentralized ACL means main/central administrator can delegate admin-rights to one of department user (Department Admin).
The "Department Admin" can then assign his own department members.

In order to achieve this, assign "Permission" rights to Department Admin.
